ACHE Western PA Role: Director at Large
Kevin serves as the Vice Chair for Education and the Director of the MHA and MHA/MBA programs for the Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of Pittsburgh. As the Vice Chair for Education, his primary role is providing oversight for the numerous academic programs offered within the Department of Health Policy and Management. As the Director of MHA and MHA/MBA programs, he leads the planning/execution of the MHA program and the joint MHA/MBA program that is offered through a collaboration with the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. In this role, he helps develop future healthcare executives. He also conducts research on a range of financial issues impacting organizations within the health industry, primarily the relationship between quality of care and financial performance. He also has a research stream focusing on the development and assessment of management competencies.
Kevin joined the Pitt faculty in 2017, after six years at Saint Louis University and after the completion of a 23-year military career within the Army Medical Department. During his time on active duty, he served as a Professor, Chief Financial Officer, Health Administrator, and Paramedic. His Army experiences included work in numerous tactical healthcare delivery organizations within the rapid deployment forces, as well as within the Army’s network of traditional hospitals. Positions of noteworthiness included commanding in the 101st Airborne Division, providing graduate-level education to over 250 future health executives, being a hospital Chief Financial Officer, and serving as a medic during the Cold War.
Originally from Louisiana, Kevin is married and has five children. He has a PhD in Finance from the University of Mississippi (“Ole Miss”) and an MBA from Syracuse University.
