Andrew J. Glass, FACHE

Andrew J. Glass is currently the Director of the Erie County Department of Health.  As the County’s Chief health officer, he is responsible for the promotion, preservation and protection of the health and well being of the 280,000 people and environment of the County.  Services of the department include: health education, child lead poisoning, injury prevention, highway safety, chronic disease, water and sewer regulation, food safety and restaurant inspection, public health preparedness, epidemiology, infectious disease monitoring and control, water quality, tobacco education and enforcement, maternal child health programs and environmental quality.

Prior to his current position, Andy was a senior executive with a tertiary care health system and the Chief Executive Officer of a network of seven hospitals within the tri-state region.  During this tenure, he was responsible for over $75 million in construction projects including senior living, acute care, physician office and support facilities.  He developed and started a physician practice management system, a regional home health services company, a regional physician quality initiative and a regional physician specialty service, all of which increased access to health care while at the same time lowering costs.

Mr. Glass holds a Master of Health Services Administration degree from Gannon University, Erie, PA, a Master of Science in Biology from Edinboro University, Edinboro, PA and an undergraduate degree in General Science from Gannon University.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executive (FACHE) and a board member of the Western PA chapter.  Andy is also a member of the Pennsylvania Public Health Institute, the American Public Health Association the National Association of City and County Health Officials and a member of the Health Committee of the National Association of County Officials.

Very active in community affairs, Mr. Glass serves on the boards of the Ophelia Project and Community Resources for Independence.  He serves on several committees of the Erie Community Foundation and Erie Homes for Children and Adults. He has previously served in board leadership positions for the Presque Isle Audubon Society, Kearsarge Rotary, Erie Independence House and Lake Erie Ballet.
