As our national healthcare systems become increasingly focused on pay-for-performance and transparency, it is essential that the quality of the delivery of care be measured. As part of that assessment, it is essential for all parties to agree on what constitutes quality and how it will be captured. This program will spotlight how Pennsylvania's Health Care Quality Alliance is providing a collaborative approach to promote meaningful quality measures, and collect and present information that will be useful to both healthcare professionals and consumers.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the benefits of a collaborative approach to quality measurement
- Determine how leveraging data from hospitals AND health plans can improve transparency
- Review challenges with risk-adjustment, hospital size and location in quality measurement
- Understand the difference between quality indicators and patient preference/decision factors
- Discuss how to "translate" health care quality measures into understandable information for consumers
