Kushal Ganesh Babu

Kushal Ganesh is a second-year graduate student at H. John Heinz III College, pursuing a Master of Science in Health Care Policy and Management. He graduated from BMS College of Engineering in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Electronics. During his undergrad education, Kushal has interned in numerous hospitals and healthcare organizations and functioned in departments like administration, patient safety, quality improvement and accreditation. Over the summer, Kushal interned at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for rehabilitation as an Administrative and Quality Improvement Analyst. Some of the work during his internship include:
• Led a fast-paced team on development and implementation of processes for data collection, data analytics and other strategies to maximize efficiency and quality based on the recent Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Joint Commission(JC) survey recommendations.
• Streamlining administrative processes and integration of surveys across various departments within the hospital.
• Training of department managers and supervisors in data collection, business operation models and policy adherence.
• Obtained funding of a quarter of million dollars through educational grants for the “2nd Annual Pediatric and Congenital Heart Summit: Navigating Shone’s Complex” Organized by pediatric department at Cleveland Clinic.
His main interests are in quality improvement, patient safety, and hospital administration. Kushal will be working with the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC over Spring ’18 as part of the Capstone project.
